Lower Manhattan Community Council is proud to partner again with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Paris (Mairie de Paris), to provide one New York City artist or collaborative pair with the opportunity to live and work at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France for six consecutive months. LMCC is currently inviting artists to apply for this special residency. The selected artist will be assigned a live/work studio/flat in Central Paris and be provided with a monthly living stipend. The Leadership U program was designed by TCG and is funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The overall intent of this program is to strengthen the field by developing the individuals who are the core and future of theatre. This new program provides support in two initiatives:

Franklin Furnace Fund Franklin Furnace awards grants to emerging artists to produce major works in New York. Each year Franklin Furnace awards grants to emerging artists, allowing them to produce major works in New York. Grants range between $2,000 and $10,000 based on the peer review panel allocation of funding received by Franklin Furnace. Artists from all areas of the world are encouraged to apply, however, artists supported by funding from Jerome Foundation must live in the five boroughs of New York. Full-time students are ineligible.

The Foundation wishes to encourage artists (in painting, sculpture, or printmaking) who have dedicated their lives to developing their art, regardless of their level of commercial success. Emergency Grants from The Adolf & Ester Gottlieb Foundation
The Emergency Assistance Program is intended to provide interim financial assistance to qualified artists whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need. The maximum amount of this grant is $10,000; an award of $4,000 is typical. To be eligible for this program, an artist must be able to demonstrate a minimum involvement of ten years in a mature phase of his or her work. Artists must work in the disciplines of painting, sculpture or printmaking. When a situation warrants it, reviews can be completed within 24—48 hours.

The Vilcek Foundation is pleased to announce that it has selected dance as the award category for its 2012 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in the Arts. For the first time, a dance artist will receive the $25,000 annual award.
Since 2009, the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in the Arts has been calling attention to the key role young immigrants play in the continued vibrancy of culture in the United States. It also encourages and supports young foreign-born artists in their early careers, when they often face significant challenges. Dancers, choreographers, artistic directors, and former dancers who now teach are invited to apply. Applicants must have been born abroad, reside permanently in the United States, intend to pursue a career in the U.S., and be no more than 35 years old as of December 31, 2011. 4 finalist awards of $5,000 each.

The Many Voices Project is the distinguished annual competition (since 1981) to find new and emerging writers. (An emerging writer has not published more than two books of creative writing with a commercial, university, or national small press.)

This year, there is a $20 entry fee to enter this book-length competition; there is also a required entry form, available HERE. Each year LMCC awards grants for arts projects happening across Manhattan’s neighborhoods through The Fund for Creative Communities (The Fund) and the Manhattan Community Arts Fund (MCAF). Both programs provide grants of up to $5,000 to arts organizations and artists for quality arts projects in every discipline.

Women Helping Others Foundation Invites Grant Applications
The WHO (Women Helping Others) Foundation supports community-focused charities that serve the overlooked needs of women, children, and families in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Funding will be considered for tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charities that have been incorporated for at least three years and have total organizational budgets of $3 million or less. Preference will be given to organizations with an operating budget of $3 million or less, those not dependent upon government grants, and those with greater organizational program costs than personnel costs. Organizations that have previously received a WHO Foundation grant should wait three years before applying again.
Funding will be considered for grant requests from $1,000 to $40,000 each.

The Vilcek Foundation is pleased to announce that it has selected dance as the award category for its 2012 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in the Arts. For the first time, a dance artist will receive the $25,000 annual award.
Since 2009, the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in the Arts has been calling attention to the key role young immigrants play in the continued vibrancy of culture in the United States. It also encourages and supports young foreign-born artists in their early careers, when they often face significant challenges. Dancers, choreographers, artistic directors, and former dancers who now teach are invited to apply. Applicants must have been born abroad, reside permanently in the United States, intend to pursue a career in the U.S., and be no more than 35 years old as of December 31, 2011. 4 finalist awards of $5,000 each.

The New York City Department of Transportation, partnered with the Mayor’s Community Affairs Unit and New York Cares, is accepting applications from both individual artists and artists team to paint selected barrier sites around the City. Each selected artist will be assigned a site within one of the five boroughs and will be responsible for translating their design and overseeing the painting of the design onto the barriers.
