The Negro Ensemble Company offers Workshops in Screen and Documentary Writing, Directing and Play Writing with Master Instructors. Methods and techniques of great NEC actors, such as ESTHER ROLLE, MOSES GUNN, FRANCES FOSTER, ADOLPH CAESAR, DOUGLAS TURNER WARD, and ROSCOE LEE BROWN, as learned by veteran stage actor and NEC Artistic Director, CHARLES WELDON. “GIVING BACK WHAT WAS GIVEN!” Once monthly. For professional actors only. Auditions will be required. Saturdays, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Sessions begin on August 14th. Each session, $100.00. More

Intermediate Acting: Monday Evenings 6:30-8:30pm: June 21, 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 9, 16, 23, 30

For Actors who have proficiency in their craft and want to move their abilities to the next level. Based on techniques of Michael Chekov, Cicely Berry, Joan Evans, Jim Tripp, Peter Lobdell, Philip Meister, and traditional arts, the actor gets instruction in voice production and articulation, character development, script analysis, improvisation, monologue and scene work using the scripts from The Negro Ensemble Company’s Play Collections.

Advanced Acting Wednesday Evenings 7-10pm: June 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28, August 18, 25, Sept 8, 15

Workshop for The Professional Actor. Based on techniques of Michael Chekov, Cicely Berry, Joan Evans, Jim Tripp, Peter Lobdell, Philip Meister, and traditional arts, the actor fine tunes their craft through both contemporary and classic texts of African, Latin and Mainstream Authors, while exploring techniques for creating original works.
